Obama named ‘Person of the Year’
Beating out a Pakistani hero, a technology titan CEO, an Italian particle physicist and an Egyptian leader, President Obama has been named Time Magazine’s ‘Person of the Year.’ Although Time’s readers personally voted Korean leader Kim Jong-un for the title, the decision was ultimately given to the magazine’s editors who made the distinction that Obama would be this year’s victor. Time’s managing editor Rick Stengel explains the President’s win this way; “For finding and forging a new majority for turning weakness into opportunity and for seeking, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union, Barack Obama is Time’s 2012 Person of the Year.”
Several Time subscribers are reportedly irate over the mag’s pick and have threatened to cut their ties to the publication. “I’m seriously going to cancel my subscription!,” wrote a reader on Time’s website. “I can’t think of a worse choice for Person of the Year! #nobama #barackobama Poor choice!!!,”
Time has yet to respond to the controversy.
