Fantasia denies being homophobic

Fantasia landed herself in hot water earlier this week when she posted a controversial Instagram message about gay marriage that many perceived as homophobic. However, the singer recently went on the defense and denied allegations that she’s anti-gay or anti-gay marriage.

The trouble all started on Sunday night, when Fantasia posted an Instagram message, venting her frustrations about the world and all of the criticism she’s received over her relationship with Antwaun Cook. However, things went left when Fantasia seemed to then criticize gay marriage.

“I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERNMENT, THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!! Its a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! Im not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!” wrote Fantasia.

It didn’t take fans long to cry foul over Fantasia’s message and her LGBT fans, which is a pretty large portion of her fan base, quickly lashed out at the singer.

However, according to RadarOnline, Fantasia recently clarified her statement, saying that she’s not homophobic.

“I, Fantasia Monique Barrino, don’t judge anyone because I don’t want to be judged,” she said. “The gay community is one of my largest supporters. I support the gay community as they support me. Bloggers please stop misrepresenting the facts.”

Well, it’s definitely commendable that Fantasia clarified her statement and reaffirmed her support of the LGBT community. However, it’s clear Fantasia (and her PR team) should definitely learn to better articulate her thoughts when discussing such touchy subjects, lest she be misunderstood again.

Unfortunately, she’s not the only one to blunder when it comes to the LGBT community. Check out some other questionable and homophobic celebrity statements below. –nicholas robinson
