Django Unchained
Quentin Tarantino’s slavery epic-meets-Spaghetti-Western-meets-blaxploitation film easily closed 2012 as the year’s most talked-about film, and its soundtrack deftly blends as many disparate influences together as the movie. And though it features a number of Black leads, a film set in the 1800s using numerous hip hop tracks raised a few eyebrows. Including Ennio Morricone instrumentals and a 2Pac/James Brown mash-up, the soundtrack also features Jim Croce and Rick Ross. Which has to be some kind of first.
