“Stand!” by Sly & the Family Stone

The Family Stone were arguably the first funk band, and they featured a lineup that included black and white musicians, as well as male and female. And they were unafraid of singing songs about the tumultuous cultural climate of the late 1960s. This anthemic title track to their breakthrough 1969 album was a declaration for all people to stand up for themselves and take pride in who they are and in their communities.
