Lance Armstrong facing jail and lawsuits for drug use admission

Apologizing for past transgressions may be therapy for the soul, but it most likely won’t be therapy for his wallet — and it could possibly imperil his freedom, reports state.

The potential legal quandary came to light when the all-time Tour de France winner — who was stripped of all his titles — reportedly admitted to the employees at his foundation, Livestrong, in advance of the highly-anticipated interview with talk show queen Oprah Winfrey at his Texas home, CNN reported.

First of all, Armstrong could go to jail or prison because he testified under oath and signed an affidavit that he never took any steroids or performance-enhancing drugs during his spectacular decade-long run through the world’s most famous professional cycling extravaganza.

Secondly, and perhaps even more painfully, Armstrong stands to be sued by a plethora of corporations who paid him millions of dollars to endorse their products and gave money to his Livestrong foundation over the years when he held the sport in the palm of his hand.

This is what makes the Oprah interview one of the most anticipated in recent years.

Below are other athletes who faced sanctions, public derision and/or jail time for making false statements to authorities or courts.
