Cuba Gooding Jr. makes his Broadway debut in revival of ‘The Trip to Bountiful’

Horton Foote’s celebrated play The Trip to Bountiful is being revived on Broadway with a star-studded cast that includes some of the most celebrated African American actors of our time. Directed by Michael Wilson, this latest incarnation features the legendary Cicely Tyson as Carrie Watts, and Vanessa Williams, Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad and, making his Broadway debut, Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr.

The story follows Carrie Watts, who lives in a small two-bedroom apartment with her son (Gooding) and his wife (Williams) in Houston. She wants to visit her small hometown of Bountiful, but is forced to deal with an overprotective son and daughter-in-law who don’t want her to travel alone.

With such a roster of established and acclaimed actors and with Wilson steering the proverbial ship, everyone was understandably excited to be taking part in such an esteemed production.
