R. Kelly’s most successful protégé
In 1994, R. Kelly hadn’t quite developed his reputation as a songwriter for others and as a mentor (controversial marriage notwithstanding) to emerging artists. That all changed when he wrote and produced Aaliyah’s first album, the provocatively-titled Age Ain’t Nothin But A Number. Though he would pen several more hits for others, he has yet to develop another up-and-coming artist that was as commercially successful.
