Oprah Winfrey talks revealing Lance Armstrong interview

All week long, the world has been buzzing about Oprah Winfrey’s upcoming “Oprah’s Next Chapter” interview with sports star Lance Armstrong, who is rumored to have admitted to Winfrey that he used performance enhancing drugs during his cycling career. Winfrey recently spoke with “CBS This Morning” to talk about the sit-down and shared a few details about Armstrong’s “confessions.”

During Winfrey’s CBS interview, which was partially led by her best friend, anchor Gayle King, the OWN creator spoke about Armstrong’s alleged drug use. And though she wasn’t forthcoming with details, she did share that Armstrong sort of came clean.

“I would say that he did not come clean in the manner that I expected. I would say that, for myself, my team, all of us in the room, we were mesmerized and riveted by some of his answers,” Winfrey said.

“I’d prepared like it was a college exam and walked into the room with 112 questions and in a two and a half hour interview, I asked most of those questions, or at least as many of those questions as I could,” Winfrey added. “But I feel that he answered those questions in a way that he was ready. I didn’t get all the questions asked, but, I think, the most important questions and the answers that people around the world had been waiting to hear were answered and certainly answered – I can only say I was satisfied by the answers.”

Although the CBS anchors weren’t really tough on Winfrey about discussing her Armstrong interview, Winfrey explained that she was tough on Armstrong about his life, so much so that he even asked her to lighten up on him.

Winfrey and Armstrong’s interview airs on OWN on Thursday, Jan. 17. And he’s not the only athlete that’s dealt with illegal drug use. Check out some other drug-using athletes below. – nicholas robinson
