What was dangerous about the show’s premise?

Because I  run a nonprofit organization that empowers children, I can see them pack up all of this garbage that adults are so determined to feed to them and that’s where this crosses the line. The other two layers is that these children are growing up in an environment where unprotected sex is okay and the last I heard there were high rates of STDs in the black community. …Enough is enough.

Did you receive push back when you set out to petition the show? If so, from whom?

This is not all of me; my face is on it, my name is on it, but I am surrounded by a coalition and they’re all men except for one woman. The push back–and I am so disappointed by it–has been from people who say, ‘I wanted to be entertained. Why can’t you let Shawty Lo get a paycheck?’

Well, what do you say to that?

There are no black people working at major networks who have the power to green light any of these projects, including this one, and the only thing you care about in 2013 is whether or not you can feed your bloodthirsty desire to see the exploitation of children who look like you? Is that it?
