How did you get the support of the Parents Television Council?

One of our coalition members knows the president of the PTC and he told him what the deal was;  [the president] saw the petition and said, ‘What do you need me to do?’ The same thing happened with the people at Change.org.

Are there other reality shows that are in your crosshairs right now?

No. I am asked about what about Honey Booboo and all this other stuff, but Honey Boo Boo wasn’t e-mailed to me. I have never seen that show because I have a life.

What did you learn from this experience?

I never said to Oxygen that our viewers are upset or that the Black community is offended.  I said consumers and shareholders demand that your advertisers respect and do not exploit children. If you decide to air this show, all of the advertisers will be targeted. Black people have to start talking the language of money.

Also, I have heard from [single mothers] and you can feel their tears; so many of them signed the petition and commented that they were targeted by a male like the rapper Shawty Lo.

They did not want to see that wrapped up like entertainment because it’s not cute; it’s painful.

What is your message to single mothers in general?

Their voices matter, being a mother matters. Adults have choices; children do not, and they deserve better than what we are giving them.
