Sloane Stephens, 19, made history by defeating Serena Williams. During a close and intense match at the Australian Open, Stephens became the first American younger than Williams to defeat her in a tennis match. However, Williams suffered through an injury that slowed her tremendously throughout the match. Although Williams was able to fight through the injury to take several leads, Stephens capitalized by forcing Williams to move. It was obvious that Williams remained in pain throughout.
Stephens will now face Victoria Azarenka in the next round of the Australian Open.
