Atlanta hip-hop star Future has been embroiled in a child support battle since last summer, and after taking a paternity test, it has been determined with 99.9 percent certainty that the “Same Damn Time” rapper is the father of a 10-year-old son he conceived with Jessica Smith.
Future, real name Nayvadius Cash — was sued last year by Smith.
The case is now closed, with Future and Smith reaching an agreement. He has agreed to be legally recognized as the boy’s father, and will pay Smith $1,662 in child support per month. He also paid for the cost of the DNA test. Court documents indicate that Future’s monthly income is currently $16,516.30.
The news comes just as Future publicly admitted in a recent interview that he and R&B singer Ciara are in a serious relationship. In the same interview, Future hinted at his ongoing battle with Smith as “foolishness.” “I believe at the end of the day, once the media passes over and all of the foolishness goes past, we gon’ be able to be good. And we gon’ be good. It’s only comments, rumors and certain speculations. As long as we have that understanding, no one can ever come between us,” he said.
Rappers and paternity have been a hot topic thus far in 2013. G-Unit signee Shawty Lo caused an uproar when it was revealed that he would be featured in his own reality show on Oxygen called “All My Babies’ Mamas.” The show featured the rapper struggling to take care of the 10 mothers of his 11 children.
And last week, controversial Chicago rapper Chief Keef was accused of owing child support to a girl who was initially reported as being a middle schooler. It was later discovered that she and Keef are the same age.
