The Roots gave life to live instrumentation in hip-hop by combining jazz and rap on Things Fall Apart. Lyrically and musically, it was the the best album of 2000. But the group loss to Eminem’s The Slim Shady LP. The Slim Shady LP was a good debut, but wasn’t as inspiring as Things Fall Apart.
