Chicago gang violence: Blair Holt, 2007
Blair Holt was shot to death on a city bus, on the ride home from school. Michael Pace, 17, boarded the CTA bus and opened fire, aiming for a rival gang member seated at the back of the bus. Pace was sentenced to 100 years in prison.
“The innocent young people get caught in the middle,” said Ron Holt, a gun-control advocate since the death of his 16-year-old son. Pace’s 100-year-sentence “should resonate … throughout the country that we won’t tolerate gun violence,” he said.
When a gunman boarded the bus and opened fire on the passengers, Holt pushed a classmate down in her seat and shielded her with his own body; a heroic act that saved her life. For more info, visit https://blairholtmemorialfoundation.org
