Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio elected Pope
White smoke is currently erupting from the Vatican’s chimney signaling the election of a new Pope. Just moments ago the 115 Cardinals chose the new leader of the Catholic church. Frontrunners included Archbishop of Milan, Angelo Scola, the Archbishop of São Paulo, Odilo Pedro Scherer and the Canadian Marc Ouelle.
Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 77 of Argentina was ultimately was elected and will henceforth be known as Pope Francis. He is the first South American Pope.
