'The Call' movie review

Stars: Halle Berry, Evie Thompson, Abigail Breslin, Morris Chestnut

Jordan Turner (Halle Berry) is settling in for another bustling day at the office — and given that she’s a 911 operator, no day is mundane for her. When Turner gets a call from a young woman who’s just been abducted (Abigail Breslin) the race is on to save the victim’s life. Turner, it seems, may have a connection to the homicidally minded kidnapper. The hunky Morris Chestnut plays Turner’s love interest, Officer Paul Phillips. And in what can only be described as one of the most questionable decisions made by a director in recent memory (or whoever made the choice), Berry is costumed in a wig from the ‘80s — why that was necessary for an actress with a full head of lush hair, leaves this critic dumbstruck. Fortunately, that is a minor distraction in a film that sizzles with crisp direction, a wily antagonist, and the on-screen chemistry of Berry and Chestnut. –p.d. lee
