'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone' movie review

Stars: Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde

Carrey and Carell. You knew it had to happen sooner or later. Pairing comedic actors Steve Carell and Jim Carrey — two of the best in the business — should make for  cinematic gold. Both have incredible timing and a physicality to their performances that get directors’ salivary glands working overtime. They’ve got the comedy thing down pat. Can it get better with a toothsome pas de deux?

We soon find out when Burt Wonderstone (Carell), a big-time Las Vegas illusionist’s show and livelihood are threatened by a brash new street performer (Carrey). With ticket sales down, Wonderstone’s cushy gig on the Strip might be headed for its final curtain call. The ensuing one-upmanship leads to what one character describes as “the best trick ever!” –p.d. lee
