Kanye West, for all his bratty behavior and random outbursts, has shown himself to be quite supportive of the younger generation of hip-hop stars. He famously offered words of encouragement to Soulja Boy early in his career, flipped a remix for controversial teenage Chicago rapper Chief Keef‘s “I Don’t Like” back in 2012, and he’s obviously a fan of Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All frontman Tyler, The Creator.
Because Yeezy decided to give Tyler’s new video, “IFHY” the full frontpage of Kanye’s official website.
The song has no obvious connection to West or to G.O.O.D. Music and there is nothing else on the page, but Tyler’s video, which can be seen [HERE].
It is unclear why Kanye decided to throw such blatant support behind the polarizing young rapper, but Tyler definitely took notice and thanked the hip-hop superstar for his co-sign
“Damn, thanks ye. you werent kidding. f–k that is sooo sick …,” Tyler tweeted.
“I showed him yesterday but i thought his head nod to it was just cause i was there. he really likes it thats sick,” Tyler added in a moment of obvious humility. “He is one of the only people i can talk videos and buildings with.”
“DAMN THANKS YE! ????????????? THIS IS CRAZY HELL YEAH CA CA FE FE BOOKIE TAY!” Tyler tweeted later.
The OF rapper admitted last week that he still feels like an “outsider” in music circles.
“Even if I’m at the Grammy [Awards], I feel like I’m an outsider,” said Tyler in an interview with LA Weekly. “I don’t really think about sh*t until someone brings it up. I can’t explain how it is. I’m not lonely, I just don’t have anyone to relate to.”
“I’m the same dude. I’m still regular. This shirt must’ve been washed a hundred times,” he added.
