Jay-Z and Beyonce have traveled the world and experienced places that the average person could only dream about. Hip-hop’s top couple decided to take things further by visiting Cuba.

For those who are unfamiliar with the history of U.S. and Cuba relations, the U.S. has a decades-old embargo with Cuba. Violations of the government’s embargo can lead to $250,000 fine and 10 years in prison. U.S. citizens must have special permission from the government to visit the country.

In most cases, permission is granted for humanitarian work, journalistic or academic reasons. At this point, Jay-Z and Beyonce’s visit seems to only be for vacation as the couple is celebrating their anniversary. Republicans have lashed out at the Obama Administration and are looking to investigate the couple’s visit.

Although it’s highly unlikely that Jay-Z and Beyonce will face a fine or serve time in prison, it will be interesting to discover how the couple gained permission to visit Cuba.
