Kobe Bryant dodged major injuries throughout his career. His dedication to staying in snap and working in the off season allowed him to outlast other great players his age such as Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady. At 34, Bryant was still an elite player in a game that has always been ruled by men in their mid-20s.
On April 11, Bryant experienced an injury that made Laker Nation cringe. While driving against Harrison Barnes in a game against the Golden State Warriors, Bryant twisted his ankle awkwardly and fell to the ground. He grabbed his ankle and could be barely move.
After the game, Bryant told the media that he heard a snap and was unable to walk. He suffered a torn Achilles tendon. It takes most people 12 months to recover from that type of injury. That means that Bryant may be 36 before he’s able to play again. He told reporters that he will dedicate himself to akin a comeback.
But in reality, we may have all witnessed Bryant on the basketball court for the last time.
