Effects on pregnancy
Smoking decreases female fertility by 50 percent. It thickens the cervical mucus, preventing sperm progression, lack of estrogen reduces the quality of the uterine wall and restricts blood flow necessary for the implantation of the egg. Smoking increases the risk of miscarriage and premature births. There is also stunted growth for a fetus that is not well oxygenated.
