Mel Gibson — For many Gen-X and Baby Boomer blacks, this one had to sting the most. Both on and off screen, Gibson came across as a sensible, fun-loving free spirit. We loved the Lethal Weapon franchise where he starred opposite Danny Glover and even liked the Mad Max movies. Plus, he conned millions of church-going blacks to go see his blockbuster spiritual film, The Passion of the Christ, the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. But he turned out to be a virulent anti-Semite as well as a racist.
