Talib Kweli is teaming up with new urban video social network BingeNow.com to give away $12,000 in prizes to promote positive hip hop through the Speak Up campaign. The campaign and video contest is a platform for music artists and creators to be rewarded for promoting positivity in music.
“The negative trends in hip hop music are effecting the younger generation. We are challenging people to Speak Up about the positive and inspirational aspects of our culture. This is more than a video contest. This is a cultural movement,” said Kweli.
Binge, LLC serves to empower students and the hip hop generation by keeping them engaged for social, political, educational, business, and entertainment purposes. This contest will be live on BingeNow.com and participants can upload videos through May 23 in the following categories: Hip Hop, Spoken Word, and Soul/R&B. The artist with the most inspirational video will win $10,000 in cash and the runner-up will receive a $1,000 cash prize.
Binge, LLC Founder George Simmons shared his enthusiasm for the video contest, stating, “We are excited to take a stand and reward artists and musicians who do not glorify violence and negativity. Now is the time for artists that use music to inspire and to gain maximum exposure through positivity.”
R&B heartthrob Bobby V has teamed up with independent Atlanta hip hop artist Hustle to produce the Speak Up campaign theme song; Zone 4 and hip hop heavy weights such as Chuck D, Macklemore, Pharrell, Pill, and B.O.B. have joined the effort by endorsing the campaign.
