Peeples
Stars:  Craig Robinson, Kerry Washington, David Alan Grier, S. Epatha Merkerson

Wade Walker and Grace Peeples (Craig Robinson and Kerry Washington as a couple. Yeah, that’s pretty funny already) are almost, but not quite to the meet the parents stage. He’s ready. She’s not quite. After all, Daddy Peeples (David Alan Grier) is a federal judge and a towering intellect, so Grace is concerned that her father will make mincemeat of her intended. Despite the warning, Wade insists on making the trek to New York’s toney Hamptons to ask for Grace’s hand in marriage.

Directed by Tyler Perry’s mentee, Tina Gordon Chism, Peeples is a fresh take on the fish out of water story; in this case Robinson is that much-needed addition to the gumbo.  –p.d. lee
