Melanie Fiona goes to Westlake high school prom
A Canadian songstress recently made a fan’s dream come true when she agreed to be his prom date. Melanie Fiona, 29, attended prom with Jack Brinson, an Atlanta high school teen who campaigned for the songstress to attend the school dance. Months before the prom, the high honors student and member of the robotics team sent the songstress a series of tweets requesting that she accompany him. And when she requested that he provide a legitimate reason for her attendance, Brinson sprang into action. The Westlake high school student collected nearly 1,000 signatures on a petition and sent Fiona a series of recommendation letters. Additionally, he pledged to maintain his 3.8 GPA leading up to the occasion.
Fiona recently wrote about her encounter with the student and broke it down this way: “I blocked the day on my calendar, flew to Atlanta and here we are… Prom 2013. The lesson… You can achieve anything you set out to do … No matter how unrealistic or difficult the goal may seem. You’ll never know unless you try. Jack spoke this into existence and made me a believer as well. I hope you do too.”
