Rolling out had a fascinating conversation with music producer Sonny Digital. Read on to find out all the details.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love being creative and being able to make music. I love it because you create something new every time you make a beat.
What’s your thought process when you’re in the studio?
I don’t go in with “going to the studio” on my mind. I go in like it’s a hobby and not job. It’s fun for me to do it so I have a good feeling going in. It feels good to make beats and music and be creative.
You’ve worked with artists like Kanye West, Beyoncé, Future, Travis Porter, 2 Chainz and Rick Ross — what song was your best piece so far?
[There’ve] been a lot of songs. There was one that I did that was independent called “Stack” by Mo Pain. That was my favorite indie. Main stream would be “Same Damn Time” by Future.
What else do you have going on currently?
I have a record label now, Forbes Music Group. I’m really in to putting projects together. My first artist, Que, has a new single called “Young Hitta.” It’s the hottest song in Atlanta right now. It’s going to be the summer anthem. After I get Que going, I’m moving on to another artist so I can help them out. We’re gonna take over the world.
Any advice for up-and-coming producers?
Don’t be annoying. Create your own sound. Be original. Go into the studio with a clear mind and don’t think of producing like it’s a job. Have fun with it.
