Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, Alicia Keys has been at the center of a growing controversy regarding her scheduled performance in Tel-Aviv, Israel on July 4, 2013. Keys will be playing the show as part of her current world tour but several organizations have asked the star to cancel the show due to ongoing conflicts between the Israelis and Palestinians.
Israel’s history of acts of violence and various atrocities committed against Palestinians has led to many American artists refusal to perform. Keys has yet to announce whether or not she will pull out of the show, despite pleas from organizations such as the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions), requests on her Facebook page and, now, an open letter from famed author Alice Walker.
Walker has penned an open letter to Keys, asking that she research Israel’s history against Palestine and cancel her performance.
