Over 2,000 residents have been placed under evacuation as the wildfires continues to spread north of Los Angeles. As of today, the wildfire has burned over 40 square miles of forest towards the canyons and 50 miles of residential property upward into north of downtown LA.

LA County Sheriff’s Lt. David Coleman described the damages at a press conference on Sunday stating that “The blaze was named the Powerhouse Fire because it began near a hydroelectric plant that sends electricity to Los Angeles over 2,000 people and 500 homes were under evacuation orders in the community of Lake Elizabeth, and about 800 people from 200 homes were affected in Lake Hughes, while the remaining residents of Green Valley have evacuated 1,000 people and 250 homes.”

The evacuees have been placed in temporary shelters and The Red Cross set up an evacuation center in Palmdale, Los Angeles where donations of toiletries, diapers, food and clothing are being accepted.  Animal lovers can also do their share by donating to the animal evacuation centers at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds.

The Powerhouse fire is not the first set of wildfires to rip through Los Angeles. Take a look at these brave celebrities who were affected and helped out during the 2008 California wildfires.
