“Dark Girls,” due to air Sunday, June 23rd on Oprah’s OWN Network is a controversial documentary that goes underneath the surface to explore the prejudices that dark-skinned women face throughout the world including class-ism, racism and a lack of self-esteem.
The film explores the roots of of these issues, within a segment of cultures that span from America to the most remote areas of the world. Women open up and dig deep to share their most personal stories, while allowing those around them, to heal as they learn to love themselves for who they are. – ruthie hawkins
