The prosecution in the George Zimmerman murder trial recently called its star witness to the stand today. Rachel Jeantel, a friend of Martin’s, took the stand and spoke about her last conversation with Trayvon Martin.

Below is a portion of her testimony.

“Tray complained that a man kept watching him. I asked him how the man looked. He said the ‘man looked like a creepy ass cracker.’

I told him the man maybe a rapist. He said ‘Stop playing with me like that.’ He said he would try to lose him by walking home. He said the man kept following him. We started talking about the NBA All-Star game. He said ‘that n–a is still following me now.’ That’s slang. I told him to run. He said he’s almost home. He told me he was about to run and the phone shut off. I called back, he answered. He told me, he was at the back of his father’s home. I told him to keep running. He said he lost him. [Moments later] he said ‘Why are following me?’ A hard breathing man said, ‘What are doing around here?’ I said ‘Tray what’s going on? I then heard a thump. I heard Tray say ‘Get off, get off!’ Then the phone shut off.

I called him back. I never reconnected with him.

I didn’t go the wake because I didn’t want to see the body. I felt guilty because I was the last person to talk to him.”
