Zimmerman claims he was not following Martin on the night of the fatal shooting in February 2012. If Zimmerman testified under oath that he was not following the teenager, then his entire credibility would crumble in front of our eyes. In fact, if he were to say this, he might even convict himself inadvertently.
There are other, smaller, discrepancies and embellishments in Zimmerman’s accounts that would help detonate his story that he was defending himself and his neighborhood from an intruder. For these reasons, Zimmerman would be crazy to take the stand.
