Julia Merfeld found herself in a dead-end relationship. But instead of asking for a divorce, Merfeld decided that killing her husband was the best option. According to reports, Merfeld attempted to hire an undercover cop to do the job.
In a recently released video, the Michigan-based woman, who has two kids by her husband, told the undercover cop she would pay him $50,000 out of the $400,000 that would be collected from her husband’s life insurance policy.
“When I first decided to do this, it was easier than divorcing him,” she told the cop. “I didn’t have to worry about the judgment of his family or breaking his heart. It’s a clean getaway. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for awhile.”
The cop later told Merfeld that he would shoot her husband in the face. She agreed and handed him a $100 deposit.
Merfeld’s callous plan came with floor plans of her home and she also told the cop her close friend would be moving into the home shortly after her husband’s murder.
Merfeld pleaded guilty and will be sentenced to a minimum of six years in prison.
