“I just got home, y’all…”
Soul singer Lyfe Jennings was understandably excited when he took the stage at B.B. King’s Bar & Grill in Manhattan’s Times Square this week. The artist was in jail for most of 2010 through 2012, and his enthusiasm for performing and creating music is born of the realization that he has had to put his career on hold several times due to incarceration.
His latest prison stint was the result of an altercation with his baby’s mother and former manager, Joy Pound, back in 2008.
Nonetheless, Jennings appears to have put his troubled past behind. With opening performances from up-and-coming singer Suzy Q and Bronx-born R&B star Shaliek, Lyfe took the stage later in the evening and proceeded show why he was hailed as one of the more promising R&B artists of the 2000s.
