Beyoncé encourages fans to #ActNow for Trayvon
Shortly after President Obama spoke candidly on George Zimmerman’s acquittal, a superstar singer shared her thoughts on her website. Beyoncé, 31, is currently at a Trayvon Martin rally in New York City with her husband Jay-Z. The twosome will join Sybrina Fulton and Al Sharpton for the peaceful protest that marks the 100 city vigil for the slain teen.
Before taking to the streets however, Beyoncé penned a heartfelt blog post encouraging fans to take action and sign the petition to bring civil rights charges against George Zimmerman. Additionally the songstress compared the death of Trayvon Martin to Emmett Till’s.
“We are still struggling with the issue of inequality and the lack of value for a black man’s life. Trayvon Martin’s most basic civil right, the right to live, was violated,” wrote Beyonce. “We have made so much progress and cannot allow hatred and racism to divide us. When we all join together, people of all races, we have the power to change the world we live in. We must fight for Trayvon the same way the generation before us fought for Emmett Till.”
Beyonce then asked fans to sign a petition demanding that civil rights charges be brought against George Zimmerman.
