Salinger
Stars: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Edward Norton, Judd Apatow

The notoriously reclusive J.D. Salinger, who died in 2010 at 91, wrote one of the most beloved and critically acclaimed books of the 20th century, The Catcher in the Rye. Salinger turned his back on fame and fortune, particularly the fame part of the equation, giving his final interview in 1980. Through a copious amount of research and interviews with those close to him (most of his friends declined to talk about the writer), Salinger explores the man behind the myth. Director Shane Salerno uses a documentary style to tell his story through the perspectives of some the people Salinger touched, including actors Philip Seymour Hoffman, Danny DeVito and Edward Norton, and writers Gore Vidal and Tom Wolfe. –p.d. lee
