Pastor Terry Jones attempted to make a statement that would’ve served as a sign of disrespect to Muslims around the world. According to the Associated Press, Marvin Sapp, assistant pastor, organized an event on Facebook that would center on the burning of 2,998 Qurans.

The protest and burning was to take place on Sept. 11 in Mulberry, Fla. However, authorities discovered his plan and foiled it before anything could occur. While he was driving to Mulberry Park, police discovered thousands of kerosene-soaked Qurans in his pickup truck. They immediately arrested him and took him into custody.

Pastor Jones promoted the anti-Islamic film, Innocence of Muslims. The controversial film sparked deadly riots in Egypt, Libya and led to the deaths of several Americans. Also, Jones’ Quran burnings in 2011 sparked riots in Afghanistan.

Jones and Sapp were charged with open-carry of a firearm and unlawful conveyance of fuel.
