Atlanta celebrates Bravo’s ‘The New Atlanta’ reality show
A bevy of Atlantans recently packed the Museum Bar to mark the forthcoming premiere of a new reality show. More than 350 young professionals, VIPs and representatives from United Distributors gathered to “Myx & Mingle” with the cast of “The New Atlanta.”
The latest creation from reality TV guru Mona Scott-Young, “The New Atlanta” features Africa Miranda, Tribble Reese, Alexandra Dilworth, Emily Lipman, Jevon “Vawn” Sims and Sincerely Ward.
Scott-Young was in attendance for the event along with Myx Fusions president Peter Reaske, sales VP Mike Sylvester and Stefan Springman.
Additional attendees included Stevie J, Joseline Hernandez, Lil Scrappy and Bambi as well as Jazze Pha, Chanita Foster and Neffe Pugh.
Radio personality Rashan Ali served as hostess and moderator of the evening that featured cold bubbly as it marked the launch of Myx Fusions Moscato in the city.
Rolling out was in attendance for the event and chatted with several of the “The New Atlanta” cast members who’ll barrel onto TV screens next week.
Producer Jevon Vawn Sims told rolling out that he was particularly excited to be a part of the cast so that he could change people’s perspectives on reality television.
“Maybe I can make a difference and have [them] say ‘man he took this reality TV s– to another level,” said Vawn. ” I’m praying that that’s what I can do.”
He also dished on his forthcoming self-help book titled The Manual.
“What we’re missing in our kids is teaching them how to love themselves. In this book I come up with something that’s called the GPS — the Guided Personal System that’s tailor-made for you,” said the reality star about his tome.
A self-described Southern belle with the heart of a gypsy, cast member Africa also chatted with rolling out about her casting.
“You’re never really ready [for reality TV],” said Africa. “You’re not ready for your life to play out and for somebody to sit there while you’re crying or angry, sometimes by the end of it you kind of get use to it but it’s hard to forget that the cameras are there. For me it was a way to creatively turn myself inside out,” she added.
The singer and now reality star also added that she ultimately hopes to represent for the “brown girls”and bring diversity to the reality TV archetype.
“I am a real brown girl,” said Africa. “I wrap my hair up at night. I love to listen to Future but I do love some NPR. I think it’s time to have a different version of a brown girl on TV,” she added.
“The New Atlanta” premieres Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 10 p.m. EST on Bravo.
