Duewa Abeana Lee, 36, was charged with 12 counts of felony child abuse, torture and aggravated mayhem for allegedly burning a 12-year-old girl with a clothes iron, stomping on her and stapling her ear. The girl’s father, Wade Curtis Carter, 40, was incarcerated in August 2011 for second-degree robbery.
Now 14, the teen testified against Lee saying Lee burned her with an iron and hot spatulas, threw her down stairs, refused to let her eat, smashed her head into a window and forced her to stand for hours. The abuse started when the teen’s father was arrested for armed robbery.
Lee, who was pregnant at the time of the abuse, took the young girl to the DMV and she was rescued by an employee when she pleaded for help and was taken to child protective custody.
On Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, Lee received an indeterminate life term on the torture conviction, plus another nine years for the other counts related to the abuses endured by the girl.
