Last March, Tom Hanks was embroiled in a blackface scandal when he emceed an event at the private St. Matthew’s Parish School in Pacific Palisades, where a white parent performed an African-inspired dance in blackface. Hanks quickly apologized, saying he was shocked and appalled.
