A transvestite who goes by the name of “Coco” McDonald testified in court about being shot by a man who was duped into believing that he was a woman in Hillsborough County, Fla.

How did a 16-year-old boy, who is on trial for allegedly shooting the transvestite, get confused by the manly-sounding man who dresses as a woman is beyond us.

McDonald testifies that the meeting turned out to be what he considered a trap. McDonald and Tavares Spencer, both of Tampa, Fla., met at a party on April 9 and agreed to meet up at a vacant house a couple of weeks later.

Spencer’s defense attorneys claim that he shot McDonald because he was tricked into believing that McDonald was a woman and that he was in fear of his life. He is on trial for attempted murder, robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

McDonald said Spencer could not be in fear of his life because he is very comfortable with his sexuality and he is always upfront with people he meets who may have an interest in him.

“I tell anyone, whether its platonic, intimate, I let everybody know because I’m not ashamed of who I am. I’m very confident about my sexuality,” said McDonald, according to Bay News 9. “I’m transgender, if you really don’t want to have any dealings with me I understand, but I’m just letting you know so there’s no confusion.”

Spencer’s charges carry enhanced penalties because this is considered a hate crime.
