Maria Kang, 32, has been slammed on Facebook after posting a photo of herself in revealing workout attire showing off her tightly toned figure, alongside her three sons, ages three, two and eight months, with the caption: “What’s Your Excuse?”
Kang, a former beauty pageant queen and California fitness competitor received more than 12,000 comments on her photo, a majority of them supportive, but what’s more surprising is that received a wide arrange of criticism:
“My excuse is that I don’t have photoshop. If you would have used a real picture of yourself, instead of this photoshopped version, it would be a different conversation. What you did was rude. Plain and simple.” said one comment

“Whatever. Easy fame.”
In an interview with Yahoo! Shine, Kang stated that she was merely attempting “to inspire people,” she continued, “I wanted to say, ‘I know you think you don’t have time if you have kids. But if I can do it, you can do it too.” Following her interview with Shine she posted an apology:
“I’m sorry you took an image and resonated with it in such a negative way. I won’t go into details that I struggled with my genetics, had an eating disorder, work full time owning two businesses, have no nanny, am not naturally skinny and do not work as a personal trainer. What I will say is this, What you interpret is not MY fault. It’s yours. The first step in owning your life, your body and your destiny is to OWN the thoughts that come out of your own head. I didn’t create them. You created them. So if you want to continue ‘hating’ this image, get used to hating many other things for the rest of your life.”
Which of course opened a whole new can of worms. Did Kang go wrong in her attempts to inspire? Or is this simply a case of the haters, being haters? – ruthie hawkins/@ruubabie
