David Golson claims he was beaten and forced to strip after clerks at a 7-Eleven in Bronx, N.Y. accused him of stealing a candy bar. According to a report by Courthouse News Service, Golson is filing a lawsuit suing 7-Eleven and Fulton Dekalb Inc.
On Oct. 20, 2012, Golson was approached by three store clerks who accused him of stealing a candy bar. Golson says the employees beat him and forced him to strip. They took off all of his clothes except his boxers and socks. The incident was filmed on a cell phone camera by a customer who also believed the employees were excessive.
On the video, Golson pleads for the employees to release him and tells them that he didn’t steal anything. The employees are seen hitting him, biting him on his back and wrestling him to the floor. The video eventually went viral and was shown on several top national media outlets.
In the lawsuit filed in Bronx County Supreme Court, Golson says that he suffered bruising, bite marks and public humiliation after the video went viral. The clerks never found candy on Golson.
He is seeking damages for assault and battery, negligence and emotional distress. Representatives at 7-Eleven have yet to respond to the lawsuit.
