How would you describe your sound?

It depends on the day of the week and time of day. I obey the music that is the foundation or bed of whatever song it is that I’m working on. I’m soul, r&b, house, dance and definitely Hip-Hop.

What’s the biggest thing you’ve learned about the music business?

To just be yourself and okay with the fact that you won’t be loved by everyone or fit in everywhere you go or with everyone you meet. Also, that the ones that will love you and that you fit with will always be a pure joy to connect with and that if you stay on the lookout for them you will undoubtedly find them or they will find you.

Who’s been your favorite collaborative artist?

Musiq Soulchild. He’s a consummate professional and works really hard. He showed me things about my voice that I did not know and he’s just really kind and a gentleman.

Who are your peers and who do you hope to work with in the contemporary soul genre?

The contemporary soul genre is so vast consisting of all sorts of different textures and expressions. Artists who live their art before they make it and those who can create on demand, those who understand music innately and those are music innately. At the moment Rafael Saadiq comes to mind.

What is the meaning behind your single “Carbon Copy”

“Carbon Copy” is about being your truest, most authentic and genuine self. It’s about knowing that every journey is as unique as it’s traveler’s thumb print.
