Kanye West’s rants have been the talk of the town all week as he’s screamed and yelled at famous TV and radio host Sway Calloway. Kanye claimed that his fiancée, Kim Kardashian, is the most beautiful woman in the world and gave a thought-provoking interview about systematic racism, capitalism and classism across the globe with “The Breakfast Club.” Besides those unforgettable moments, West also had a headline-worthy moment at a recent show when he embarrassed singer Lenny Kravitz with a rant about the respected rocker.
According to Page Six of the NY Post, during West’s Madison Square Gardens concert on Sunday night, the rapper spoke about seeing Kravitz in Hunger Games: Catching Fire and he went off into an interesting tangent about Kravitz’s little-known foray into the world of fashion and how he inspired “N—– In Paris.”
“I saw Lenny Kravitz. There wouldn’t be no song called ‘N—– In Paris’ without Lenny Kravitz, because he was the first n—-r in Paris. Black rock star, what is interesting to me, is that I have started hanging out with people in Paris; Lenny Kravitz has the best taste and the dopest crib in Paris and I don’t know if you know this but he designs furniture … and he had been working on a clothing line for a long, long, long time,” said West.
“The designers would love it when Lenny showed up at their fashion show. ‘Hey Lenny promote us the best you can’. ‘Hey Kanye promote us the best you can’ …I mean any of you n—-rs promote it the best you can. I said, ‘Wait a second, I gotta dream of doing a clothing line’. You know what they told me while I was in Paris, you know what the billionaries told me, when I told them about my dreams? They said Lenny Kravitz wanted the same, same thing. Like its a mother—— joke. There wouldn’t be no Kanye West if it wasn’t for Lenny Kravitz. The only difference between me and Lenny Kravitz is I turn up on those n—-rs, I don’t give a (bleep) about looking cool or being cool, and this is no disrespect to Lenny…nobody want to look like a fool,” said ‘Ye.
West continued his praise of Kravitz, claiming that he envied the rocker’s charm in the face of adversity.
Have you heard anyone talk (bleep) about Lenny Kravitz? He’s a nice guy, he’s so well mannered. I envy manners, I envy people who are extremely likeable, I’m like, ‘Damn, I wish I could be likable like that.”
Unbeknownst to West though, Kravitz was in the audience and heard everything he said. Apparently, Kravitz was surprised and embarrassed by West’s rant and was reportedly heard saying, “He doesn’t know I’m here.”
Well, Kravitz may have been embarrassed but with all that praise and respect West gave him we’re sure he was surprised as well. Leave it West to bring little-known and important factoids to light while just venting to his fans. – nicholas robinson
