For Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker, Burruss’ mother, Mama Joyce, has been a thorn in the couple’s side all season long on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Joyce has repeatedly disrespected everything from their actual relationship to her daughter’s engagement ring. Now, a new report claims that Joyce’s harsh critiques are taking a heavy toll on Tucker, who is reportedly almost brought to tears after he learns Joyce thinks he’s too broke to be “the one” for Burruss.
In a new preview clip from Sunday night’s upcoming episode, Burruss sits down to eat with Tucker and tries to deliver the bad news about Joyce with a laugh and a smile as she tells him that Joyce claimed he’s “an opportunist” and doesn’t have enough money to ask for Burruss’ hand in marriage.
“She just didn’t feel like you were the one,” Burruss explained to Tucker. “Well, she made a snide remark about my ring because it’s not as expensive as other people’s rings.”
Although Burruss tries to laugh about it all, but Tucker isn’t at all amused.
“This s— is real frustrating,” said Todd, who was nearly brought to tears by the slight. “I feel like I’ve given so much of myself to this relationship, and I’m just getting shot down.”
“My mom is too old to change her way of thinking,” Burruss replies, but Tucker is inconsolable on the matter and voices his frustration with Joyce not accepting him or his bank account as is.
“So basically, if I become a millionaire by next year, I can buy that love?” he asked.
“She definitely wouldn’t have so much of an issue,” Burruss replied, laughing.
But for Tucker this is nothing to joke about and he criticizes Burruss for allowing her mother to bad mouth him and their relationship without consequence.
“You laugh a lot about this… It’s really not funny,” says Tucker to Burruss, who claims that she’s just trying to be respectful of her mother.
“I think by not dealing with it, you might lose out on a man who is good for you,” he added.
We can’t say that we blame Tucker for being mad at both Burruss and her mom about the constant critiques. Clearly, Burruss can still keep her mom while at the same time teach her mom to respect her choices and her relationship. But Tucker isn’t the only one who has had to deal with a tough in-law.
