Bronx-born hip-hop star Fat Joe was sentenced to four months in prison back in August for tax evasion and the rapper surprised everyone this week when he came home a few weeks early. Joe was released from prison in Miami’s Federal Detention Center just in time to enjoy Thanksgiving with his family. DJ Nasty posted on Instagram that “Joey Crack” was home.
Soon, hip-hop notables began welcoming Joe back from his stint in prison.
“Fat Joe Released From Jail Welcome home Joseph Cartegena! My brother who came to visitme in Jail all the time,” Shyne tweeted. “On the phone wit fat joe my bro,” N.O.R.E. added later. “@fatjoe is the only person in the world that can make u laugh about prison welcome home my bro.”
“Welcome home @fatjoe #salute,” Bun B tweeted.
The Instagram post featured a short clip of Joe surprising his daughter on Thanksgiving Day. Joe was sentenced to four months in prison, a $15,000 fine, and a year of supervision for tax evasion. It is reported that he owed $718,038 in back taxes from 2007 through 2010. He pleaded guilty for the two years. No further details have been made public regarding his release.
