In the U.S. science and math are fields that minorities and women are least likely to enter. With such a small percentage of professionals of color in the field of math and science, having a supportive network would only help in promoting the fields for other minorities. In addition to creating a this network, professional organizations create a cooperative of individuals to share and exchange ideas.
The American Association of Blacks in Energy has 36 chapters nationwide and focuses on topics like energy policy, technology and the environment. In addition to providing a network of peers the organization provides scholarships for future energy leaders.
It’s a mouthful, but the National Organization for Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers is vital to the community of blacks in the field of science and engineering. It takes great heart, dedication and perseverance to commit to such a field and these professionals help make our everyday lives easier.
Physics may scare most high school students and even some adults but the professionals who are a part of the National Society of Black Physicists enjoy learning how everything around us involves physics. The NSBP is committed to promoting the well-being of African American physicists within the international scientific community.
