Kanye West is still criss-crossing the country with his “Yeezus” tour, but rumblings have already begun regarding the mercurial star’s next studio project. West has already begun work on his follow-up to the controversial Yeezus project, and he’s got two very high-profile collaborators.
In an interview with Life+Times, G.O.O.D. Music artist/producer and longtime West associate Q-Tip revealed that he and fellow superproducer Rick Rubin will be working on the next Kanye album.
“I’m producing Kanye’s new album with Rick Rubin,” said Tip. The acclaimed former frontman of A Tribe Called Quest worked with West on 2010s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and 2011’s Watch the Throne album. Rubin previously worked with Kanye on Yeezus.
Q-Tip also discussed his own forthcoming solo project, The Last Zulu and his well-documented passion for deejaying. “I mean, I love doing that because I think that, today, it’s important to connect all of the dots musically,” he said. “And when I spin … first of all, I try to read the energy of the crowd, and not try to make it too much about me. But at the same time, whatever that crowd makeup is, then I instantly just try to pull things and try to take them on a journey, and try to connect different music from genre, from different periods, but still keep the party going.”
West’s next album is expected to be released in 2014. The star also recently acknowledged that he’s begun work on his next album. “I haven’t named my next album but I have started on it,” Kanye told Philly’s Power 99.
