It’s an exciting week for gamers across the world as the battle between Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One officially begins. While it’s unusual to have two extraordinary game systems launch only a week apart, the clash speaks volumes about the money invested into each and the consumers appetite for them. But which one is superior and offers the greater deal? The answer truly comes down to personal preference. The most evident difference between the two is the price. The PS4 is $100 cheaper than the 399 X1. That extra hundred goes toward the X1 new Kinect camera, which may be its best or worst addition, depending on the gamer. Its main function is to process voice commands that separate navigation from the original remote control.
However, the X1 has the same problem as any other device that tried to incorporate this feature, it isn’t consistent. The X1 is heavily focused on cable television, which can only be taken advantage of by the gamers who have cable and plan on keeping it. The PS4 user face is clean, responsive and seems like more of a finished product overall. Live streaming via Web is beginning to explode; the PS4 gives you the ability to broadcast live game play. While Microsoft has promised this for the X1, it won’t be ready until next year. The two game systems share many similarities. Both offer video streaming services such as Hulu Plus and Netflix. Both play the latest “Need For Speed” and “Assassins Creed” games. Bottom line: the X1 is good for anyone who likes to experience new ideas in the gaming world, many of which are still in process. The PS4 is slick, simple, and $100 cheaper — making it more appealing. The choice is yours. –dara ross
