The family of Jahi McMath are upset that doctors have decided to remove her from life support against their wishes. On Dec. 9, McMath went to the Oakland Children’s Hospital to have tonsil surgery and was scheduled to be discharged Dec. 10.

However, McMath began bleeding from the nose and mouth after the surgery and was soon declared brain-dead. Her family wanted to keep her on life support in the hopes that McMath would regain consciousness.

Doctors have now gone against the family wishes and will remove her from life support. The doctors have said that McMath is legally dead under California law. But family members say that doctors have pressured them to remove the child from life support. They believe that doctors are looking to quickly reuse McMath’s bed.

Family members also say that doctors and nurses were nonchalant while treating McMath after she began bleeding. The family could possible hire outside investigators to explore if any form of medical malpractice occurred during or after McMath’s surgery.
